The Nobel Award 2014
- Together with John O´Keefe, professors May-Britt and Edvard Moser have been awarded the Nobel Prize for 2014 in Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries of cells that constitute a positioning system in the brain.
- Key questions adressed by their research: How do we know where we are? How can we find our way from one place to another? How does the brain code this information so that we immediately find the right route the next time we go this way?
- "The discovery of the brain’s positioning system represents a paradigm shift in our understanding of how ensembles of specialized cells work together to execute higher cognitive functions", the Nobel press release says.
