SiT Barn launches Language Project

SiT Kindergarden Nissekollen launches Language Project to help bilingual children. Many of the children at SiT Barn are children of international students. These children are often bilingual. This means that in addition to their mother tongue, they must also learn and use the Norwegian language in kindergarten

What’s special about the international families at SiT Barn is that the families often go back to their home country after finishing their studies, or they start studying and eventually working in countries where the English language is central. This often leads parents to introduce English at home as a supplement language.

Through the English language project, SiT Barn states that they wish to take a closer look at what SiT Barn can offer to strengthen the childrens English knowledge.

SiT Barn point out that to learn Norwegian will still be important for the bilingual children in their kindergartens. They will be especially focused on the bilingual children and make sure they are given the necessary language foundation to be able to be understood by other children and adults, use the Norwegian language when playing, use everyday terms that are used in the kindergarten -and express their wishes in Norwegian.

In addition to working with the Norwegian language, these children will also be helped and supported to be able to understand and express themselves in English.
